Outlook express still works, but doesnt quote properly.

I was actually thinking of making a phone app to post and read usenet
newsgroups. Just so I can learn how to make apps.

And also since Google Groups will soon no longer show new content nor
allow posting, so there will be no way to post and read newsgroups on a
mobile anymore.

But I would want my relatives to test it out for me, and they wouldn't
want to have to create an account with one of the usenet servers.

I never said it was good.

I do use NewsTap a bit myself and it does work
but its quite slow when downloading new posts.

Not a massive problem if you use it daily now that
usenet has died in the arse so spectacularly but
wouldnt be very good if you use usenet say weekly
if you use the few remaining more active groups.

Not clear how much that is due to the lack of horsepower
in even the best smartphones. I do use it on one of those.

Cross-platform must be the way forward though.

Why would anyone want to create 2 separate apps, when they can just make
1?

Google Flutter can even be deployed to web and desktop as well, apparently.

The best for limited usage is Leafnode <www.leafnode.org> - it's much
easier to build and set up than INN
<https://www.eyrie.org/~eagle/software/inn/> - but you have to know what
you are doing.

Not that it's difficult, it just requires a modicum of sense.

As to windows, I don't know, maybe someone has 'ported one or done it
from scratch.

And it's much easier these days to spin up a Linux VM and do it there,
or it may be possible under WSL.

There are no doubt other small-scale NNTP servers out there, possibly
even for windows, JFGI. :-)

Cheers,
Gary B-)

INN2 can be used for UNIX/Linux, but should also run on WSL.
